Read to Self
Read to Self is a time set aside for students to read on their own. This time will often be filled with self-selected text. Our goal is to develop greater fluency, accuracy, and comprehension while gaining stamina.
Word Work
Word Work is a personalized spelling program. This program allows students to work on spelling patterns that are custom fitted to where they are currently best suited to work. Our goal is to come to a greater master of phonics and spelling!
Buddy Reading
Buddy Reading time in my class is often characterized by small group study. Sometimes, we are reading short passages. At other times students may be engaged in novel studies or partner work related to our weekly feature text. Our goal is to become better, and more critically thinking readers!
Work on Writing
During Work on Writing, students will be following the 5 steps of the writing process to further establish their writing skills. Our goal is to be able to construct strong paragraphs with purpose!
Listen to Reading
Listen to Reading is a time of read aloud. During the year we will read many books. Some will be short picture books, while others will be novels. During this time students will be actively engaged in the reading process as we critically analyze the text being read. Our goal is to gain greater vocabulary, listening stamina, and text comprehension.
